Self and Unit Evaluation

REGARDING YOUR OWN PERFORMANCE
1. What were the three aspects of the assignments I've submitted that I am most proud of?
I am most proud of the thoroughness of my compendium reviews, the quiz that I did well on, and the lab projects that I put quite a bit of time into.
2. What two aspects of my submitted assignments do I believe could have used some improvement? The quiz I did NOT do well on, and increased absorption of material from the compendium reviews.

3. What do I believe my overall grade should be for this unit? A- I still worked my tooshy off. :)

4. How could I perform better in the next unit? I need to review material more thoroughly, and take more time doing so, before I take the quizzes.

REGARDING THE UNIT (adapted from Stephen Brookfield, University of St. Thomas "Critical Incident Questionnaire")
At what moment during this unit did you feel most engaged with the course?
I loved the online labs and lab project. I thought they were very interesting and I learned a great deal about blood pressure, etc.

At what moment unit did you feel most distanced from the course?
Again, when I was doing the compendium reviews.

What action that anyone (teacher or student) took during this unit that find most affirming and helpful? I had online conversations with other students who helped me with certain questions I had. I appreciated them taking the time to help me out.

What action that anyone (teacher or student) took during this unit did you find most puzzling or confusing? None. I truly can't remember any at all.

What about this unit surprised you the most? (This could be something about your own reactions to the course, something that someone did, or anything else that occurs to you.) The actual data from my lab project surprised me, at times. I had expected different end results when it came down to some of the activities I participated in for the final lab project.

Megan, great work on this unit—hard to know where I could ask for more! I’m surprised the quizzes didn’t go better (I haven’t seen your numbers yet, but you say they weren’t as good as you like) since your compendiums are so complete. Great job on the labs and the compendiums and fascinating essay—I can all the hard work—keep it up!

COMPENDIUM MAJOR TOPIC ONE: OXYGEN, MICROBES, IMMUNITY:
The compendiums are great…very complete, wonderful sources of images and great information…fantastically complete and detailed!

COMPENDIUM MAJOR TOPIC TWO: NUTRITION:

LAB MAJOR TOPIC ONE: BLOOD PRESSURE
Very complete write-up. I agree…bad working to ask for a “problem” What they are really referring to, I think , is what groups you want to compare and what you think might be factors that affect their differences in bp, which you do a good of outlining in your write-up. Your specifics on individuals bp are great and you do a wonderful job analyzing the data.

LAB MAJOR TOPIC TWO: A DAY OF FOOD
Looks like a great diet—is that a whole day? I do appreciate being honest, like you say, “behaving myself” I’m always amazed at how few calories the whole class eats…of course it’s hard to get really everything in there also.
Nice job analyzing the results!

LAB PROJECT: EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGY:
Great lab write-up…and very detailed! Your graph looks great although I’m sure it might have been even more prettier in original format. You do a great job explaining why you decide on your activities, relating it back to the basic physiology and I love the personal aspects from how heavy the vacuum is…yes, cleaning in general always seems to bring great cardiovascular changes—it uses a lot of muscles that we don’t normally use (well, of course, depending on how often you clean, but if you’re like me!!). And good analysis of what might be improved in the experiment while staying true to the data—yeah!

ETHICAL ISSUE ESSAY: WHAT IS FOOD:
Wow, what an inspired essay—you really lay out “the problem” with a quick view of the soccer Mom lifestyle and then also the difficulties with knowing what we should be eating from the nutritionists. Your criticism of the “slow food” approach is also welcome…it’s just not going to work within the culture that many of us live…maybe if a big economic slow-down comes…????...ironcially, as much as this is something to fear, it turns out that overall levels of satisfaciotn and happiness go up with a certain level of economic down-turn..mabye it’s because people return to a culture of eating out of economic necessity? But enough soap-boxing..thanks fo the insightful essay.
